My home is my castle (overused I know...but so Theme Thursday)!!

Aloha dear bloggers and hope you enjoy your Thursday and everyday before and after that lol

So happy that I can finally play along and participate in today's theme! All is well and let the stories begin!

Once upon a time there was a little castle...

It was called the "river castle" because of its location. Its walls were strong, thick and kept its owners out of harms way. Word has it that during the crusades it was created by people from Genova (Italy) who came and conquered the area of Thrace (Greece) during the 4th crusade. Another story mentions that the castle was used to protect barons and other important people from raids during the 13th Century...

In 2009 this castle 'strangles' to survive in the world that we build around it. A world that doesn't stand still to listen to the history that these walls have to offer...

This is the story of my hometown's little castle...a castle neglected by governments and archaeologists today. People in cars pass it by, they don't stop to give it a second look. I thought I should learn a bit about it and pay a tribute to its history...that way this castle (what's left of it) will be remembered by us and will forever live in our little (but still big) blog sphere...

Pay a visit to the other castles here :)

Cool. Was it, perhaps, also on the overland route used by the Crusaders?

I am so glad to read about this castle. Too bad everyone ignores such a piece of history. The Crusades? That's going a long ways back. Thanks.

Lovely post and I too feel bad about the neglect. It seems that people often overlook their history, leaving it to benign neglect. Happy Theme Thursday.

I don't know. I think I might be rather glad it gets passed over by tourists and archaeologists and the like. I'd want it personal and neighborly, and not fenced in and dug out in sections and catalogued and photographed and all that.

Do you know what I'm saying? I don't think I'm saying it very well...

But look at the eautiful land. My eyes were distracted y the olive trees. After reading aout the fires of Attiki and the lost wildlife it is a joy to see these trees. Hop over to my blog and click on the picture for Attika SOS :)

This is a nice tribute to a vanishing place in history. We should all pay more attention to our eroding edifices.

I never thought of castles in Greece I wonder who built it. There was a similar ruin close to my aunts home in Wales years ago. Forgotten and neglected on a little mound. I loved playing around it.

I love old ruins like this! It reminded me of the "true" Dracula's Castle which I blogged about for TT. (So did Candie, by the way, coincidentally!) Informative post, which to me means great post!
